Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - General sequence across the belt consist of a thick metavolcanic sequence composed or predominately mafic pillow flows, which in turn are conformably overlain by a sequence if intercalated mudstone and wack units. In places considerable thickness of oxide, carbonate and/or silicate facies iron formation occur intercalated with the clastic metsediments, to the north to the metsediments there is a predominately mafic metavolcanic sequence which appears to be younger than the metsediments. Major intrusions of quartz monzonite to granodiorite composition occur it the northwest, northeast and southeast of the area and minor intrusions including dikes and sills of diabase felspar and quartz felspar porphyry and pegmatites are common. A number of northeast trending major faults cross the belt. Deposit type: Float (Lode Gold/Iron Formation.).
