Mineralization Comments

Mar 13, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - The Jardine (Zone 4) showing is described by Joliffe (1987) as being hosted in strongly-sheared gabbro. The most significant shearing is reported to strike east, while a weaker northeast-striking fabric has also been noted. Gold mineralization is reported to be associated with both shearing trends, and the host rocks are strongly carbonatized (Joliffe 1987). Sample descriptions from trenches (identified as trenches N to V) examined by Joliffe (1987) indicate that gold is also associated with quartz veins/stringers, silicification and arsenopyrite. This occurrence is found in one of a series of discontinuous northeast- to east-trending shear zones that cross-cut the host gabbro intrusion in an area located to the north and east of Wesley Lake (Piroshco, Breaks and Osmani 1989). The N-9 (MDI000000000500) and Tex showings (MDI53A05NW00006) located to the east, are associated with the same series of structures. Mineralization associated with these shears is reported by Piroshco, Breaks and Osmani (1989) to typically be associated with pods of massive to disseminated arsenopyrite and foliation-subparallel quartz-pyrite-pyrrhotite veins and veinlets. Robertson (1941) reported that a sample of massive arsenopyrite collected by the Jardine Syndicate from an 070-striking shear zone at the original showing assayed 0.51 oz/ton Au. The most significant assay reported from this occurrence by Joliffe (1987) is a chip sample assay of 0.32 oz/ton Au over 0.69 m from Trench U. Breaks, Osmani and DeKemp (1987) reported grab sample assays of up to 2150 ppb Au from this occurrence. An anomalous copper assay of 2540 ppm was also reported from a sample collected immediately to the west of the showing by Breaks, Osmani and DeKemp (1987) from a boulder containing chalcopyrite-bearing quartz vein material.
