Mineralization Comments

Mar 13, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - The first evidence of potential economic mineralization at the west end of Sage Lake was found in 1961 with the discovery of gold mineralized float by Rio Tinto Canadian Exploration in 1961 (Boleantu 1961). This mineralized float was described as gossanized chloritic schist mineralized with pyrite, massive to crystalline arsenopyrite and quartz veins. Boleantu (1961) reported gold assays of 0.06 and 0.14 oz/ton. Subsequent diamond drilling carried out in the area by Rio Tinto in 1963 (drill hole SL-6 - AF TB 53A/05NW-0015-C1) intersected 0.18 m of black-green schist that assayed 0.02 oz/ton Au. This horizon was immediately below a 1 m wide horizon of oxide-facies iron formation that was reported to be cross-cut by quartz veinlets and mineralized with pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. Perry (1982) reported that a Canadian Nickel Company diamond drill hole (57741) targeting a geophysically-inferred fold in iron formation a the west end of Sage Lake (with a probable east-striking axis as shown on Canadian Nickel assessment file map E-5) encountered a quartz vein that assayed 16.2 g/t Au over 0.5 m. This vein was hosted in mafic metavolcanics approximately 47 m above the iron formation.
