Mineralization Comments

Mar 07, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - McWilliams, Gillan and Smith (1981) report that this occurrence is found in an area dominated by muskeg and overburden with few, widely scattered, outcrops. Airborne geophysical surveys carried out by the Great Plains Development Company of Canada over the Horseshoe Lake greenstone belt in 1971 resulted in the identification of a number of geophysical anomalies that were subsequently tested during a 25 hole diamond drilling program. This occurrence is based on assay results reported on the diamond drill hole log for drill hole number 72-B-3 (AFRI# 53B02NW0006). McWilliams, Gillan and Smith (1981) report that the diamond drilling program carried out by Great Plains Development Company in this area intersected an assemblage of sedimentary and volcanic schists and gneisses, with granite and quartz/carbonate veins being encountered in some holes. The geophysical anomalies (magnetic and electromagnetic) were interpreted to have been caused by pyrite and pyrrhotite mineralization, which was found in all drill holes (McWilliams, Gillan and Smith 1981). The log for diamond drill hole 72-B-3 (AFRI# 53B02NW0006) was reported to have encountered significant mineralization (0.54% Cu and 0.07% Ni) in a narrow (0.3 m wide) massive pyrite zone hosted by chlorite-hornblende gneiss at a depth of 58.8 m. The host rock was also reported to contain 25 to 30% calcite in fractures, veinlets and massive zones.
