Mineralization Comments

Mar 07, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - Sage and Breaks (1982) described the Sulphide Zone as a massive sulphide horizon up to 7.6 m thick that is hosted within schistose chloritic mafic metavolcanics with local intercalations of dacitic lapilli tuff. Talbot (1996a) also reported the nearby presence of well-laminated argillite containing up to 5% pyrite. The occurrence is also indicated by Talbot (1996) to be located immediately south of a tonalite intrusion that marks the northern boundary of the Horseshoe Lake greenstone belt. According to Sage and Breaks (1982), ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys carried out over the area by Rio Tinto Canadian Exploration and Great Plains Development Company of Canada during the 1960s and 1970s respectively, identified a strong conductive horizon with an approximate strike length (east-striking) of 300 m that is interpreted to be associated with the Sulphide Zone. Talbot (1996a) noted that this horizon is located approximately along strike with the Rust Seep Zone, which is located approximately 1.5 km to the east. The most significant assays reported from this occurrence include 0.05 oz/ton Au over 0.94 m and 0.12% Cu over 0.3 m from a diamond drill hole advanced by Rio Tinto (Sage and Breaks 1982). No occurrence-grade assays were reported from seven diamond drill holes advanced in the area by Great Plains in 1972 (AFRI# 53B02NW0006).
