Mineralization Comments

Mar 18, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - The OLP Area No. 6 zone is hosted within the mafic metavolcanic rock-dominated South Rim unit of the McGruer assemblage (Thurston, Osmani and Stone 1991). Elliott and Corkery (1988) described the rocks in the immediate area of the occurrence as consisting of several bands of lean iron formation within mafic flows. The iron formation bands range in thickness from 0.3 to 1.5 m and consist of limonitic chert with minor magnetite laminae. The iron formation bands are locally folded (folds with z-asymmetry), with axial planes oriented 160/90 and fold axes plunging 38 to 45 degrees to the northwest. The lean iron formation is reported by Elliott and Corkery (1988) to be locally mineralized with trace to 1% stringer pyrrhotite and trace to 1% disseminated arsenopyrite and chalcopyrite. Anomalous gold assays were reported to have been obtained from the mineralized iron formation, and from an iron formation-hosted quartz vein. The most notable results included a 0.3 m chip sample across a band of iron formation that assayed 3115 ppb Au and a grab sample from a 5 cm wide limonitic quartz vein with trace chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite that assayed 2610 ppb Au. OLP Area No. 8 is located approximately 100 m east of Area No. 6 (Elliott and Corkery 1988), and hosts a similar style of mineralization. This mineralized zone was trenched in 1982 by 493217 Ontario Limited (Hodge 1982) and diamond drilled by Van Horne Gold Exploration in 1985 (Adams 1985). The earlier trenching was reported by Hodge (1982) to have produced an assay result of 0.056 oz/ton Au over 0.6 m, while Elliott and Corkery (1988) reported a channel sample assay of 560 ppb over 0.58 m in gossaned, chert-rich sediments with 5 to 7% pyrite. Diamond drill hole OP-85-12 was reported by Adams (1985) to have encountered gold-bearing intercepts of between 0.01 and 0.02 oz/ton Au from quartz, quartz-pyrrhotite and quartz-calcite-tourmaline veins.
