Mineralization Comments

Mar 18, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - The OLP Area No. 4 occurrence is hosted within the mafic metavolcanic rock-dominated South Rim unit of the McGruer assemblage (Thurston, Osmani and Stone 1991). The occurrence was described by Elliott and Corkery (1988) as a small outcrop that exposes mafic tuff and beds of biotite-rich, dirty chert with local narrow bands of white chert. These rocks have been variably sheared, silicified and carbonatized, and are extremely limonitic. The occurrence is located immediately to the west of a strong north-northwest-trending VLF-EM conductor that is oriented parallel to shearing (Corkery and Elliott 1988). Mineralization consists of trace to 1% arsenopyrite and chalcopyrite. The rocks are also reported to contain small-scale steeply-plunging (both to the north and south) z-folds. The most significant assay reported from this occurrence was a surface grab sample result of 3315 ppb Au (Elliott and Corkery 1988). A single diamond drill hole (OP-87-A-47) was advanced by Power Explorations to test this occurrence at depth. The most notable assay reported from this drill hole was 0.013 oz/ton Au over 1.52 m from mafic metavolcanics containing abundant quartz/calcite veinlets (Corkery and Elliott 1988).
