Mineralization Comments

Aug 28, 2019 (Mark Puumala) - Newman and Burk (1987) reported a grab sample assay of 1800 ppb Au at this location from a 60 cm wide concordant quartz vein (foliation in the area generally strikes 335 with near-vertical dip) hosted in mafic metavolcanics. The vein was reported to have been mineralized with approximately 1% sulphides. The host mafic metavolcanic rocks are part of the South Rim unit of the McGruer assemblage (Thurston, Osmani and Stone 1991). The occurrence is located approximately 400 m west of the contact with the Eyapamikama metasedimentary rock assemblage of Thurston, Osmani and Stone (1991). The mineralized chemical metasedimentary rocks are described as being limonitic and locally containing 5 to 10% magnetite, rare carbonate and trace pyrite and pyrrhotite. A 0.45 m wide band of limonitic chert with trace pyrite and pyrrhotite that is variable exposed over a strike-length of 60 m was reported by Elliott and Corkery (1988) to have contained anomalous gold values in several grab samples, with the most notable assay being 760 ppb. This mineralized horizon is oriented 148/75. The most significant gold mineralization from this occurrence (2192 ppb Au) was reported by Elliott and Corkery to occur in a 0.2 m wide, 143-striking limonitic shear zone with minor carbonate (Assessment report 53B09NW0004). This mineralized zone was subsequently tested at depth by Power Explorations diamond drill hole number OP-87-A-43 (Corkery and Elliott 1988). This drill hole intersected several zones of mineralization similar to that observed on surface. However, no significant assays were obtained from these horizons. Nevertheless, an anomalous gold assay value of 0.024 oz/ton Au was reported over 1.0 m from a band of wacke containing numerous quartz-tourmaline-pyrite veinlets (Assessment report 53B09NW0007).
