Mineralization Comments

Mar 17, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - Geological mapping by Huston (1988) indicates that the Karl-Zeemel Zone 3 showing is located in an area of significant lithological and structural complexity. The occurrence is hosted in clastic metasedimentary rocks. Felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks have been mapped to the southwest of the occurrence, while mafic metavolcanics and gabbroic intrusions are found immediately to the east. Foliation in the immediate area of this showing generally strikes northeast. However, considerable variations in bedding and foliation orientations mapped to the south and east suggest the presence of folds. Huston (1988) has suggested that the folding in this area may be related to doming around the gabbroic intrusion. A northeast-striking fault zone was also mapped to the southwest. The Zone 3 occurrence is described by Huston (1988) as a stockwork quartz vein network hosted in sericitized feldspathic wacke that grades into matrix-supported conglomerate. The veins are mineralized with trace arsenopyrite. Significant assays from this zone include grab samples of up to 4130 ppb Au and a 0.33 m channel sample that assayed 23 905 ppb Au (Huston 1988). A Placer Dome diamond drill hole (AFRI# 53B09SE0011) that was drilled approximately 200 m southeast of this occurrence in 1997 is reported to have encountered coarse-grained massive mafic metavolcanics that were mineralized with disseminated chalcopyrite (up to 5%) and pyrrhotite (up to 20%). Low gold assay values (maximum value of 0.17 g/t Au) were reported from this unit. However, no copper or nickel assay results were provided in the assessment file.
