Mineralization Comments

Mar 14, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - The Libert Lake area is underlain by a narrow, north-trending sequence of supracrustal rocks dominated by mafic to ultramafic metavolcanics (Piroshco, Breaks and Osmani 1989). Other significant lithological units noted by Piroshco, Breaks and Osmani (1989) include an approximately 75 m wide banded chert-magnetite-grunerite iron formation, and a tourmaline-bearing, muscovite-rich granodiorite stock. The granodiorite intrusion is located in the central portion of the metavolcanic sequence, has a length of 3 km, and ranges from 75 to 235 m in width. Minor amounts of clastic metasedimentary and felsic metavolcanic rocks have also been mapped in the area. Piroshco, Breaks and Osmani (1989) reported that the L-1 Showing is hosted within an intensely foliated and oxidized 010-trending shear zone in mafic metavolcanic rocks. The mineralized zone is 1120 m long and 4 m wide, and contain up to 1% disseminated pyrite and pyrrhotite and numerous foliation-parallel quartz-iron carbonate-sulphide veinlets. Gold is associated with sulphides in both the veinlets (which contain up to 7% pyrite and pyrrhotite) and wall rock. A maximum surface sample assay of 5.1 g/t Au over 2.7 m was reported by Piroshco, Breaks and Osmani (1989) to have been obtained during an early 1980s exploration program that was carried out by 498217 Ontario Limited (Hodge 1982). Timoshenko (1988) reported a composite grab sample assay (from four exploration pits) of 0.148 oz/ton Au from this zone. During a 1987 diamond drilling program carried out by Power Explorations and Van Horne Gold Exploration, occurrence-grade gold assay results were obtained from two drill holes that intersected the L-1 zone (Timoshenko 1988). The best results were 0.037 oz/ton Au over 1.52 m in drill hole LI-87-16, and a 15.2 m interval of drill hole LI-87-16 that averaged 0.031 oz/ton Au. The anomalous gold mineralization in these drill holes was reported to occur in heavily brecciated, silicified and weakly carbonatized mafic metavolcanics and iron formation containing 3 to 15% pyrrhotite and minor pyrite (Timoshenko 1988). The drill hole data were also interpreted by Timoshenko (1988) to indicate that the mineralized zone plunges toward the south.

Sep 11, 2019 (Therese Pettigrew) - The L1 showing is comprised of eight trenches over a 100 m strike length trending approximately 360 degrees azimuth. The widest trenches occur at the southern extent of the trend and expose about four meters of sheared gossanous mafic volcanic flow. The mafic volcanic unit is of amphibolite facies and is comprised mainly of plagioclase and amphibole. The volcanics are open folded in an east-west orientation that is perpendicular to shearing. Axial planar shearing and fracturing structures contain up to 15% quartz veins and the flow is moderately to strongly silicified. Disseminated pyrrhotite, pyrite and arsenopyrite occur throughout the silicified and veined zones, ranging up to 3% total sulphides. One hole from the 2008 drill program returned 8.6 g/t Au over 0.9 m from moderately sheared and intensely quartz-flooded patch of mafic volcanic with 2-4% pyrrhotite (Assessment report 20000004373).
