Exploration History

1957: Discovered by a prospecting party, who drilled 3 X-ray holes. 1959: M. Levine rediscovered the showing and extended the zone with stripping and trenching. Property was staked by Teal Exploration Ltd., who carried out an EM survey. 1960: Teal Exploration drilled 15 DDH totalling 1448.7 m. 1966: Pyrotex Mining and Exploration Company Ltd. carried out trenching and sampling. 1976: St. Joseph Exploration Ltd. acquired the property. 1977-78: St. Joseph Exploration carried out mapping, an airborne EM survey, ground HLEM and magnetometer surveys, and drilled 3 DDH totalling 365.14 m. 1985: Sulpetro Minerals Ltd. carried out prospecting and sampling.

Mineralization Comments

Mar 20, 2008 (Mark Puumala) - This occurrence is described on p.63-65 of OFR 5792 (Breaks and Bartlett 1991) and on p.63-70 of OFR 5698 (Piroshco, Breaks and Osmani 1989).

Aug 19, 2019 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Teal Occurrence consists of a series of discontinuous, quartz-ankerite-sulphide veins hosted by the quartz-iron carbonate zone. The main sulphides are arsenopyrite, tetrahedrite, chalcopyrite, pyrite and bornite. The veins are parallel to foliation, are boudinaged and locally occur as "sheeted veins" within schistose zones up to 1.5 m wide. Up to 1% euhedral to subhedral pyrite and arsenopyrite occur within the quartz-carbonate and chlorite-calcite zones (Piroshco and Shields, 1985). Mineralization is mainly confined to a 12 by 195 m zone distributed within a quartz-carbonate shear zone developed between massive, medium-grained metadiorite and fine-grained mafic metavolcanic rocks (Breaks and Bartlett, 1991). Samples collected by Pyrotex in 1966 returned values of 0.01 oz/t Au and 0.16 oz/t Ag. Teal Exploration’s DDH 7 returned values of $2.19 Au (0.06 oz/t Au at $36.50/oz Au), $12.93 Ag (14.05 oz/t Ag at $0.92/oz Ag), and 2.28% Cu over 1.5 m. DDH 4 returned $0.27 Au (0.007 oz/t Au at $36.50/oz Au), $7.63 Ag (8.29 oz/t Ag at $0.92/oz Ag), and 4.92% Cu over 1.4 m. DDH 2 returned $2.44 Au (0.067 oz/t Au at $36.50/oz Au), $10.16 Ag (11.04 oz/t Ag at $0.92/oz Ag), and 1.84% Cu over 0.85 m (Assessment report 53B14SE0017). A channel sample taken by Teal Exploration returned 0.99 oz/t Au, 16.33 oz/t Ag, and 2.41% Cu. A second representative grab from the quartz vein material assayed 4.56 oz/t Au, 77.8 oz/t Ag and 5.70% Cu. A ten pound bulk of the schist material, showing only fair mineralization returned 0.10 oz/t Au, 31 oz/t Ag and 3.16% Cu (Assessment report 53B14SE8217).
