Mineralization Comments

May 24, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - This occurrence is based on the presence of copper and nickel mineralization reported by Wood (1980) in an outcrop of conglomerate. The mineralized conglomerate is comprised of mafic and ultramafic rock fragments mineralized with chalcopyrite, magnetite and malachite. Sulphide mineralization has also been reported by Wood (1980) at numerous locations in close proximity to this occurrence in a wide range of lithologies including conglomerate, sandstone, intermediate to felsic volcanics and intermediate intrusives. Wood also reports the presence of approximately 1.6 m of sulphide facies iron formation in a nearby diamond drill hole advanced by Madsen Red Lake Gold Mines (AFRI53C07NW0503). Wood (1980) reported assay results of 0.95% Cu and 0.08% Ni from a grab sample of the mineralized conglomerate. Madsen Red Lake Gold Mines conducted considerable exploration in the area of this occurrence from 1967-1970. Notable assays included 0.44% Cu, 0.03% Ni and 0.04 oz/ton Au from a 3 m surface chip sample across the mineralized zone (AF RL 53C07 Madsen Red Lake Mines Ltd.), 0.27% Cu and 0.04% Ni from a 0.9 m section of ddh PS-2, and 0.04 oz/ton Au over a 0.74 m section of ddh PS-1 (AFRI# 53C07NW0505).
