Mineralization Comments

May 24, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - The mineralized zone on Kichiminitik (W) Island is reported by Bateman (1939) to consist of a minimum of three parallel northwest-striking fracture zones hosted within a diorite intrusion. Bateman (1939) indicates that these mineralized zones parallel the dominant joint orientation within the intrusion, and has mapped them as typically dipping moderately (40-60 degrees) to the southwest. Based on the results of prospecting and diamond drilling carried out at the site in 1937 by Spirit Lake Gold Mines, Bateman (1938) suggests that the mineralized area covers a strike length of greater than 290 m, and a width of approximately 75 m. The mineralized fractures range from 5 to 30 cm in width and contain massive arsenopyrite (Bateman 1939). Disseminated arsenopyrite mineralization has also been observed to occur in the wall rocks for distances of up to 30 cm from the fractures. Bateman (1939) also indicates that the mineralized zone contains narrow (1 to 8 cm) tourmaline-quartz stringers that are mineralized with arsenopyrite. In addition to arsenopyrite, Bateman (1939) reports the presence of small quantities of pyrite, chalcopyrite, magnetite and epidote. Bateman (1939) reports chlorite alteration on the fracture walls, as well as secondary biotite and muscovite, albitized potassium feldspar, allanite and tourmaline within the mass of the diorite wall rock. According to Wood (1977), significant portions of the host intrusion (Bijou Point Complex) have been sheared and altered. Bateman (1939) reports the following significant assay results from this occurrence: A 91.6 kg bulk sample of massive sulphide material assayed 2.35 oz/ton Au and 21.83% As; grab sample gold assays of 0.83. 0.87 and 2.83 oz/ton.
