Mineralization Comments

Jul 30, 2020 (Mark Puumala) - The Henderson occurrence is described by Ayres (1974) as a ferruginous chert and slate sequence that has been intruded to the northeast by metagabbro. A 3 to 9 m wide, northwest-striking slaty argillite/siltstone horizon that is located immediately adjacent to the intrusive contact is reported by Ayres (1974) to be mineralized with 5 to 25% pyrrhotite. Detailed mapping of this occurrence by Ayres (1974) indicates that this horizon has been exposed in outcrops and trenches over an approximate strike length of 50 m. The pyrrhotite occurs as concordant lenses and veinlets up to 5 mm wide, and locally as irregular blebs and veinlets. The ferruginous chert is not reported to contain significant sulphides in the southeastern portion of the occurrence. However, at the northwest corner, it does contain up to 40% pyrite as irregular, commonly interconnected veinlets that are subparallel to bedding. The gabbro is reported to be sparsely mineralized, containing only rare disseminated pyrrhotite and pyrite. Four grab samples collected from this occurrence by Ayres (1974) only contained trace levels of base and precious metals. Therefore this is classified as a discretionary occurrence.
