Lithology Comments

Nov 21, 2014 (Mark Puumala) - Ayres (1974) indicates that this occurrence is a narrow galena-chalcopyrite-sphalerite-calcite-quartz vein zone hosted in talcose peridotite. The vein is reported to be oriented 305/40 and is illustrated in detailed mapping by Ayres (1974) to be exposed in outcrop for an approximate strike length of 3.5 m. The vein zone is approximately 30 cm wide at the eastern end of the exposure and pinches out to the northwest. A diamond drill hole advanced to the east of the surface exposure by A.J. Lewis in 1968 (Ayres 1974) failed to intersect an eastern extension of the zone.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 30, 2020 (Mark Puumala) - The mineralized zone is reported by Ayres (1974) to be a shear that contains 10 to 20% concordant quartz (and minor carbonate) lenses and veinlets. Chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite comprise up to 5% of the zone and occur as blebs and veinlets within or immediately adjacent to the quartz veins. Ayres (1974) reported a grab sample assay of 1.46% Zn, 0.37% Cu, 0.25% Pb and 0.80 oz/ton Ag. Coll (1982) describes a silver showing on the southern end of Gold Hill (11170E, 11370N) as a 10 cm wide mineralized shear zone that is exposed over a strike length of 2 metres within intermediate metavolcanic rocks. The shear zone is reported to strike approximately 140 with a steep southerly dip. Mineralization consists of galena and sphalerite. Grab samples returned assays of up to 1.62 and 2.6 oz/ton Ag from galena-rich samples. Only a trace of gold was reported from these samples (Assessment report 20000004859).
