Lithology Comments

Nov 20, 2014 (Mark Puumala) - Ayres (1972) reports the occurrence of a 0.45 m wide disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite mineralized, and molybdenum-bearing quartz vein on the south side of the outlet from Northwind Lake. The vein is hosted within intermediate metavolcanics, and is located immediately northwest of the contact with a granitic intrusion mapped by Ayres (1972) at the southeast margin of the Favourable Lake greenstone belt. Ayres (1972) also reports the nearby occurrence of disseminated chalcopyrite and pyrite in a concordant epidotized zone (up to several feet thick) in intermediate metavolcanics on the north side of the Northwind Lake outlet. Mapping by Ayres (1972) indicates that this zone is located adjacent to a small intrusion of porphyritic granite. Similar mineralization is reported by Ayres (1972) approximately 1.5 km to the northeast (MDI53C14SW00019). Foliation in the Northwind Lake outlet area was mapped by Ayres (1972) as having a general northeast strike with moderate (40 to 50 degree) dip to the northwest

Mineralization Comments

Nov 20, 2014 (Mark Puumala) - Grab sample assays of the quartz vein material reported by Ayres (1972) include 0.40% Cu and 0.17% Mo, while assays of 0.42% Cu and 0.15 oz/ton Ag were reported from the epidotized metavolcanics.
