Mineralization Comments

Nov 06, 2007 (Mark Puumala) - Quinn (1960) indicated the occurrence of gold in an approximately 75 cm wide quartz vein located about 10 km southeast of Varveclay Lake, at a location that appears to coincide with the Orlac occurrence. Quinn (1960) reported that the vein was hosted by hybrid gneisses, and that mineralization consisted of fine- to coarse-grained galena and pyrite with lesser fine-grained pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. In addition to gold, the map illustrates the presence of silver and lead at this location. Notes (E. Chisholm - edited January 1961) found in the Red Lake assessment file (AF RL 1952 53E/SE/1 #1) describe this showing as a 0.2 to 3 m wide zone of galena mineralization in iron formation (with quartz and minor sphalerite). The iron formation is described as banded, siliceous, and up to 90 m wide. Bennett and Riley (1969) indicate that this occurrence was explored by Orlac Red Lake Mines during 1952. A January 31, 1952 Northern Miner article reported that the occurrence had assayed up to 26% Pb, 20 oz/ton Ag and 0.25 oz/ton Au over a width of 1.5 m. The original MDI record also reports assays of 33% Pb and 60 oz/ton Ag from a 1951 grab sample and assays of up to 32 oz/ton Ag, 21% Pb, 1.76% Zn and 0.04 oz/ton Au from grab samples of foot and hanging wall rocks. However, no reference information for these assays could be found.
