Abstract: This map displays the Quaternary geology of the Smooth Rock Falls area in northeastern Ontario, at 1:50,000 scale, that covers 1:50,000 scale National Topographic System (NTS) map 42 G/8. The map shows the distribution and characteristics of surficial units across the mapped area, including surficial deposit types, exposed bedrock, material types (till, etc.) and geological features (eskers, etc).
Purpose: This map is part of a four-year study of the Quaternary geology along the Highway 11 corridor between Iroquois Falls and Hearst in northeastern Ontario. The project was undertaken to produce 1:50,000 scale maps of the Quaternary geology for 10, National Topographic system (NTS) map areas in support of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) update to soils suitability mapping in northeastern Ontario.
